Sapienza Consulting BV, a TP Group PLC company, is proud to announce today that will be working with Thales Alenia Space France to provide Configuration and Data Management Support for the implementation of the Copernicus polaR Ice and Snow Topography ALtimeter (CRISTAL) mission.
The CRISTAL mission is part of the expansion of the Copernicus Space Component programme funded by the European Union (EU) and the European Space Agency (ESA) which provides Earth observation and in situ data and a broad range of services for environmental monitoring and protection, climate monitoring, natural disaster assessment to improve the quality of life of European citizens.
The CRISTAL Mission in particular will carry an advanced multi-frequency altimeter that will measure sea ice thickness and land ice sheet/glacier elevation and ocean surface elevation. The primary objectives are to monitor critical climate signals including: variability of Arctic and Southern Ocean sea-ice and its snow loading, as well as ice sheet, ice cap melting and sea level. These data will support maritime operations in polar oceans and contribute to a better understanding of climate processes. CRISTAL will also support applications related to coastal and inland waters and the observation of ocean topography
Sapienza has been selected to support Thales Alenia Space, who will develop the Interferometric Radar Altimeter for Ice and Snow (IRIS), as part of a large consortium involving 19 countries lead by Airbus Defense and Space as Prime Contractor.
Frederique Berenbach, Director of Business Development, Sales and Marketing, said:
We are excited to be working with Thales Alenia Space on a new project and participating to such crucial mission to better understand and monitor Earth climate in a context of the rapid climate change. Sapienza will bring a wealth of experience and long-standing heritage in programme management support, particularly in the area of Configuration and Data management to help Thales to achieve higher efficiency and better control of its development project within the critical schedule set for this Mission.
