Noordwijk, 19 September 2017 – Sapienza Consulting today has signed a three-year contract to supply Reaction Engines Ltd (REL) with the ECLIPSE software suite and related services.
Reaction Engines Ltd has joined Sapienza’s rapidly growing list of European business partners and widens our existing UK client base. Reaction Engines Ltd has procured the Review Items of Discrepancy (eRID), the Action Items Management (AIM) and the Document Configuration and Change Management (DCCM) modules of the ECLIPSE suite.
Andrea Bennetti, Group Commercial Director of Sapienza Consulting said:
The signature of a contract with Reaction Engines is particularly exciting due to the nature of their core business, which differs from our typical space system integrator or subsystem providing clients. To support project activities for their cutting-edge SABRE engine design, Reaction Engines have chosen our innovative ECLIPSE suite to support them. This contract reinforces our commitment of becoming the de-facto standard toolset used for Space projects and programmes.
Shaun Driscoll, Programmes Director of Reaction Engines Ltd said:
Through the experience of managing the SABRE Demonstrator SRR review in Excel sheets and Word documents, it became apparent that we would need a proven and cost effective solution to reduce the setup, management and cost of future reviews. After obtaining a consultative visit by Sapienza where they presented the integrated nature of their ECLIPSE software suite, as well as their heritage and knowledge in supporting European space programmes and their competitive licensing, it was an easy decision to undertake. We have found in ECLIPSE a proven, cost effective toolset to support our projects for the future.
ECLIPSE is the only collaborative suite of integrated applications designed with the invaluable experience of space industry professionals to be used by European space sector organisations ranging from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) all the way to International Agencies.
The ECLIPSE software suite helps space project and mission teams achieve higher efficiency, better control and compliance with ECSS standards in key project and business areas such as:
- Project Management (PM)
- Product Assurance (PA)
- Configuration Management (CM)
- Quality Assurance (QA)
eRID supports space project and mission teams through the preparation, set-up, management and control of formal project and mission reviews. The eRID module provides the means for project review participants to access deliverable data packs, contractual or technical baselines, as well as requirements documentation via the web. The module supports the complete work flow of the review and approval process, the assignment and lifecycle management of actions and the eventual closure of RIDs in accordance with the ECCS standards.
AIM is a web-based application that allows the creation, allocation, monitoring and tracking of Action Items and their associated information across small and large project teams alike. Each Action Item can be allocated to an Actionee and multiple Contributors, who can access and contribute to the Action Item’s progress, completion and closure via the web, in accordance with security permissions.
The DCCM module fulfils all the document configuration requirements of a space project. All the integrated functions are tailored specifically for the space industry’s needs and best practises. Furthermore, it supports the document’s entire evolution (i.e. creation, modification, evolution and distribution) throughout its lifecycle.

ABOUT REACTION ENGINES LTD
Reaction Engines is a UK-based company formed in 1989 to design and develop the technologies needed for a new class of innovative hypersonic propulsion system – the Synergetic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine (SABRE). Reaction Engines have achieved a breakthrough in aerospace engine technology by developing ultra-lightweight heat exchangers. These are capable of cooling airstreams from over 1,000°C to -150°C in less than 1/20th of a second with world leading compactness and low weight. Developed for their high speed SABRE engines, the heat exchangers stop engine components from overheating at high flight speeds, opening up a new era of high speed flight. SABRE class engines will enable aircraft to fly over five times the speed of sound in the atmosphere and allow space launch vehicles to be built that will radically improve the affordability and responsiveness of access to space.
