TNO is a large research institute that by virtue of their R&D activities generates a vast quantity of documentation. In their space business area, these documents have been historically managed on share drives, where configuration control, data security and accessibility can be a cause of concern.
Given their growing activities in the space sector, especially with the European Space Agency (ESA), TNO recognised the need to implement a dedicated solution to help its project team-members manage more efficiently and rigorously documents, data-packs generation and their delivery to clients.
Beside their document management needs TNO acknowledged a growing need for collaboration and control in the management of Project Action Items in order to replace the use of emails and excel.
TNO’s thorough assessment of various solutions available on the market resulted in the selection of Sapienza as Service Provider and the implementation of three ECLIPSE suite modules.
TNO has adopted three of the ECLIPSE suite modules:
- Document Configuration and Change Management (DCCM)
- Review Items of Discrepancy (eRID)
- Action Items Manager (AIM) – AdoptedAll other modules – Pilot Evaluation
and is exploring several others under pilot studies.
Benefits of Using ECLIPSE
TNO joined Sapienza’s rapidly growing European space sector client-base as the first Dutch client. TNO decided to join the ECLIPSE suite users’ community in order to collaborate more easily and increase productivity in their daily work with ESA and other industrial partners.
“We at TNO are very pleased that we could obtain Sapienza’s ECLIPSE suite. We decided to act to bring in a new system to help us with our growing documentation related to ESA projects. Our previous experience of working with Sapienza on ESA programmes, in the frame of Non-Conformance Management, led us to contact them to consult on options. Their 20-year heritage of supplying software to the space industry and knowledge of ECSS processes shone through, and after a brief trail of the ECLIPSE suite, it was a straight forward decision to choose them to support us for the coming years.”
TNO connects people and knowledge to create innovations that boost the sustainable competitive strength of industry and well-being of society. This is our mission and it is what drives us, the 3,000 professionals at TNO, in our work every day. We focus on transitions or changes in five social themes: Industry; Healthy Living; Defence, Safety & Security; Urbanisation and Energy.
